Yosemite Falls

Yosemite Falls is the highest measured waterfall in North America. Located in Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, it is a major attraction in the park, especially in late spring when the water flow is at its peak.

For century’s people, first the Native Americans and today visitors from all over the world have come to Yosemite Falls to take delight in watching and hearing the majestic water fall from high above. Yosemite Falls is actually split into two sections; the Upper Falls and the Lower Falls. Upper Yosemite Falls are a magnificent sight at any time of year, but especially so during late spring when the snow melt is at its peek. They are the seventh highest falls in the world. Lower Yosemite Falls drop 400 feet from a rocky ledge on the north side of Yosemite Valley to the flat forested land below, after which the creek flows gently through the pine woods for a few hundred yards and joins the Merced river. Lower Yosemite Falls are hidden by trees from many places in the immediate vicinity and a good view can be obtained only from a very close proximity to the falls. The Upper Falls are visible for several miles up and down the valley. Both falls are part of a two-stage drop of 2,400 feet as Yosemite Creek emerges from miles of gentle meandering across the Eagle Creek meadows in the high Alpine backcountry north of Yosemite Valley. The falls cascades over the towering granite cliffs to meet with the Merced River far below. Yosemite Falls are one of the most popular hikes in Yosemite National Park. The trail to Lower Falls is the most frequented in the whole valley. This trail is well marked and there are several spots along the trail where you can stop and take in the views as you climb higher and higher. Once at the top be you can walk down to the viewing platform for an up-close view of the falls, truly a once in a lifetime experience.
